Nowadays, everybody needs stable internet to help them get through the day. While there are others who require a reliable internet connection at home for work, others use it for studying.
To realize that around 5 million families in the US with school-age children still do not have access to the internet can be a bit troubling, especially since these students need internet connectivity to help them succeed in school.
This is exactly what the 1Million Project intends to do– help out one million high school students who do not have access to reliable internet at home by providing them free mobile devices along with wireless internet connectivity with high-speeds. To do its part in fulfilling this mission, Virgin Mobile USA has partnered with the organization to give back to the community.
Starting Monday, April 2nd, Virgin Mobile has made it easier for their customers to do their part in eliminating the Homework Gap. If you are an existing customer and you have some wireless phones you no longer use, you can donate these phones to help the organization.
There is no limit with regards to the make, model, carrier, and condition of the device that can be accepted as a donation. All of the net proceeds received from recycling or reselling these donated devices will be utilized to provide a new device to the high school students eligible for the program.
For its part, Virgin Mobile will donate $5 for every donated device to the 1Million Project Foundation, or up to $100,000 until March 31, 2019. So if you are donating a device, you can share a photo of the phone and tag the company by using the #1MillionProject hashtag before you ship out your phone for the donation.
This isn’t the first time the Sprint prepaid brand has done its part to help those who are in need. As a matter of fact, Virgin Mobile donated over 1 million meals to Feeding America in the past year.
Through this support, the wireless carrier has been able to help recipients of the domestic hunger-relief organization. Of course, Virgin Mobile could not have done it without the help of its new customers, holiday promotions, and the hashtag #DonateMyPlate. Virgin Mobile was able to donate 10 meals for every person who signed up for the carrier.
Apart from Virgin Mobile, the 1Million Project has a number of external partners and consumers who generously support the mission of the organization, such as Sprint, Sprint Foundation, LG, Motorola, and many others. You can learn more about this program here.
